The Venture Out
programs uses such activities as challenge course, trail hiking,
whitewater canoeing, surfing, kayaking and rock climbing, to provide adventure experiences
for youth ages 14 -17. Trips are conducted on the coast and in
the mountains of Virginia as well as along the Outer Banks of
North Carolina. We desire to expose youth to incredible outdoor
adventures and to challenge students and cause them to consider
Gods truth, teaching them to apply that truth to daily
life. The goal is to see individual and corporate growth demonstrated
in a Christ-centered faith and others-oriented attitude.
Learning
by experience.
Students
will be challenged to go beyond what they consider their physical,
mental, emotional and spiritual limits. Venture Out promotes
discovery and uses purposefully designed experiences to instill
values and teach spiritual truth.
Note: Venture
Out is not a correctional program nor group therapy. We do not
claim to correct errant behavior nor are we professional counselors.
Anyone on the course who breaks the codes of conduct or refuses
to follow instruction will be dismissed and sent home.
Answers to a few of your Questions?
Can I do it?
If you are age 14 to 17 and in average shape, you can. You dont
have to be an athlete to participate or to have fun. If you can
swim you can do Surf Camp and if you can canoe for a day or two
and hike for a day you can pull off the Mountain Camp. Upon registration
we will send you some suggestions for preparing for the trip.
What do I
need to bring?
Most importantly, youll need enthusiasm and willingness
to face a challenge. Venture Out provides you with all gear essential
for the outdoor activity specific to your camp. You will need
to bring your personal clothing, footwear and a sleeping bag.
Upon registration you will receive a list of further gear we
suggest you bring.
How many people
and who will be in my group?
Groups are co-ed and generally include 10 - 15 students and 2
instructors (one male and one female.)
What kind
of activities will I do?
Venture Out trips may include one or more of the following: trail
hiking, rock climbing, canoeing, surf kayaking, orienteering,
challenge course, surfing, swimming, camp cooking and a solo.
(The solo is a time period spent alone at an isolated
site for reflection. Instructors are always nearby.)
Where does
Venture Out take place?
Venture Out trips depart from and return to Triple-R Ranch. Course
activities take place on camp, in the George Wahington and Jefferson
National Forests (Virginia Mountains), and the Outer Banks (North
Carolina coast).
Is it safe?
Safety is our first priority. Our instructors are certified with
a minimum of CPR and First aid and are trained in technical skills
relative to each activity.
